Cyr Moving Sidewalks Improve Ergonomics At DaimlerChrysler Windsor Assembly

Two moving sidewalks, each engineered, built and installed by R.J. Cyr Co. , are easing the ergonomic stresses that can accompany auto assembly work at the original home of the mini-van.  The two independent moving sidewalks, each 6´ wide by 120´ long, are essentially level, rubber belt “escalators” that travel at the same speed as the car-in-process and the conveyor overhead.  Both systems are installed within the 15-station trim department.  The lines are linked, so that if one shuts down, automatic safety features prevent falls or injuries.

Elsewhere at Windsor Assembly, Cyr teams:

  • Engineered and installed a new multi-belt, power-driven, live roller conveyor.  The system delivers tires from storage to the main production line.

  • Engineered and implemented a preventative maintenance program within theseat delivery area to protect pallets from bending and other damage.

  • Reworked the power and free repair spur used for door carriers.

  • Streamlined the movement of parts to workstations, and relocatedvarious jobs, using motorized “over and under” conveyors within the body shop.
