World’s Finest Tiremaker Again Chooses Cyr for Conveyor Know-HowMichelin Tire Company, the radial tire pioneer known worldwide for its quality, has again selected R.J. Cyr Co. to provide conveyors in strategic areas of its Nova Scotia manufacturing plant. Three types of conveyors were ordered to expand and upgrade the facility. Included are five dual-belt draft conveyors (known as “giraffes” for their 20’ height) that will serve a rubber curing operation, a 40’ long crossover belt conveyor which will shuttle unfinished product between stations, and a staging belt conveyor with integral electronic evaluation unit. R.J. Cyr Co. is responsible for detail engineering and manufacturing for all systems. R.J. Cyr Co. has a long and successful history of service to Michelin. The first major project in 1983 was a complete line assembly that included elevators, roller conveyors, “stop and go” storage conveyors and peripherals. A 1988 program completed by Cyr automated Michelin’s tire handling, from the end of the production line through four inspection bays. The project included monorails, roller and belt conveyors, loading devices, and was a complete design/build/install turnkey system. Michelin manufactures 3500 types of tires for vehicles ranging from automobiles and tractors to aircraft and earthmovers. The company sells its products in 170 countries and has annual sales in excess of $12 billion.
