Ford Selects Cyr Conveyors for Machining DepartmentR.J. Cyr Co. has designed, detailed, built and installed a chip drag conveyor for automakers and other high-volume machining operations for more than 30 years. When Ford Essex was built in 1979, a Cyr chip drag conveyor was used exclusively throughout the plant. Most recently, Ford Motor Company of Canada chose the same Cyr system design for its Essex Engine facility expansion in Windsor. Four independent in-ground systems, all serving the cylinder block area, will retrieve aluminum chips from broaching, drilling and all other stations for use in the manufacture of engine blocks. The systems run continuously while machining stations are active; each has a capacity of 600 to 1600 pounds of material. Ford Essex manufactures 3.8 and 4.2 liter gasoline engines.
