Cyr, Leslie Update Ford’s Van and Truck Plants

Working in partnership with Toronto-based Leslie Bros., R.J. Cyr Co.  built and installed two types of rolling work decks, a work platform, and tool trays for the paint shop at Ford’s Oakville, Ontario, (Windstar) Truck Plant.

On both sides of the main conveyor are steel work decks, where plant operators perform sanding and inspection.  Each work station has a tool tray, which moves alongside the vehicles and workers.  At the end of the line, they cycle back to the work station.

According to Cyr General Manager Guy Moore, “Ford updated its paint shop to improve product quality and plant productivity, and to ensure long-term environmental compliance."

 “As part of the program, Cyr supplied and installed eight work decks 15 feet wide by 700 feet long, and three work decks totaling 660 feet in length,” he continued.  “Different tasks are performed on the two kinds of decks.”

Cyr also installed six large dip tanks in the paint shop at Ford’s Oakville Truck Plant and fabricated stairs, ladders, and platforms as well.  The tanks are used for e-coating, priming and final coating truck parts.  Following the original contracts, Cyr in early 1995 began work on a new order from Leslie to supply and install six additional work decks in the paint shop at Ford’s Truck Plant.

Leslie Bros. specializes in the fabrication of sheet metal for HVAC and environmental systems for automotive, pulp and paper, and mining companies.

“On many jobs,” says Leslie President Larry Myers, “the customer asks us to provide structural steel, installation, electrical, piping, and other services.  We rely on R.J. Cyr Co.  to provide its services reliably and cost-effectively.”
