Refurbish Program Saves 50% for #1 Specialty SteelmakerA division of Sammi Atlas, the world’s largest manufacturer of specialty steels, has selected R.J. Cyr Co. to restore its Heppenstall handling devices to their original specifications. The devices are used for transporting ingots and round bars between process areas at the company’s Welland, Ontario, facility. Welland manufactures stainless and high alloy steels for the tool and die, mining and aerospace industries. Four units, with capacities ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 lbs. each, are involved. Three will be refurbished; one will be rebuilt. The Cyr program puts a Heppenstall back in service in about 3 weeks – a dramatic improvement over the 16 weeks required to obtain a new unit. The cost of the rebuilding is less than half the cost of new units. The rebuilding is part of an Atlas program to inspect, test, overhaul and certify a broad range of production equipment.
