Ford Selects R.J. Cyr Co.  for Windsor Aluminum Plant

Some of the most advanced technologies in metalworking will come together when Ford’s Windsor Aluminum foundry begins production this summer.

Located just ten kilometers from the “Essex” aluminum plant, and five kilometers from Ford’s original Windsor plant, the facility will produce engine blocks for passenger cars manufactured for North American distribution.

Ford engineers developed the system and controls logic; R.J. Cyr Co.  is providing support for each phase of installation and start-up, including installation of furnaces and automated equipment for mold handling.  Cyr will also handle the installation of ovens, coremaking systems and robots.

As we’ve moved through the milestones of this project,” says Cyr General Manager Guy Moore, “our participation has flex’d between 70 tradesmen on-site to 10, then back to 30.  In many ways, this program demonstrates how a large manufacturer can make the very best use of a firm such as ours.  It’s certainly an effective way to control costs ‘in real time’ while staying very flexible.”
